You have two options:

1. Aim to be a licensed agent or direct marketing executive or financial advisor or financial consultant or

2. Aim to be a supervisor with designations such as Branch Managers, Development Officers, Unit Managers, Sales Team Managers, Agency Managers, Team Leaders, Business Associates, Chief Life Insurance Advisors and other Direct and Indirect Supervisors.


If you wish to pursue Option (1) as a Licensed Agent or Direct Marketing Executive…

In case you wish to take up a job as a direct salesman, whether as an agent or otherwise, the prevailing law requires you to undergo a Pre-licensing qualifying course of 50 hours and pass the statutory examination at the end of the course. In order to undertake the statutory training you will have to be associated with one of the life insurance companies or brokers or corporate agents.

If you wish to pursue Option (2) as a Branch manger or unit manager or sales manager…

If you seek to take up a job with an insurance company as a supervisor for direct salesmen or agents, you need to have a rock solid case, as you do not have experience of selling life insurance. Usually companies do not employ fresh graduates or post graduates without life insurance selling experience for this position. However for those who have an outstanding sales management record in other sectors for 10 years or more the companies may consider the person for a supervisory role in sales.

The Institute of Insurance Sales Training Courses for You

Persons with no work experience or with a work experience outside the life insurance industry IIST offers them a golden opportunity to take up a career in selling life insurance. Such persons are required to undertake a Foundation Course in Life Insurance (FCLI) that is of 10 days duration. There will be a written examination at the end of 10 days and on successfully passing the examination the candidate will be allowed to take up one of the three courses offered. This Course will be useful irrespective of the position you seek in a life insurance company. In this course you will learn life insurance as a product amongst the many financial products that are available in the market.
